Domestic Abuse or Anger Assessments: CFEL staff has developed guidelines for performing assessments on parents who have committed interspousal battery or who pose a risk for the well-being of their children. We hope that this service will assist the Family Court and help protect children and non-abusive spouse/partners or former spouse/partners. The following assessment can be provided:
Clinical Interview screening for history and warning signs
Administration of the Spousal Assault Risk Assessment Guide (SARA)
Alcohol and substance abuse screening
Background checks for prior arrests
Interview of spouse (current and/or former), if deemed safe
Review of past or present treatment
The outcome of the assessment would be to give recommendations along the Wisconsin Act 130, which may include:
Requiring the exchange of the child (children) to occur in a protective setting
Requiring the child’s periods of physical placement with the party who committed the battery or abuse to be supervised
Requiring the party who committed the battery or abuse to pay the costs of supervised physical placement
Require the party who committed the battery or abuse to attend and complete treatment for batters, to the satisfaction of the Court
If the party who committed the battery or abuse has a significant problem with alcohol or drug abuse and abstinence from use during his or her periods of physical placement, additional requirements for further assessment of treatment needs will occur
Recommendations for other conditions that may be necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of the child (children) or the safety of the party who was the victim of the battery or abuse.
Cost for the assessment services will be $1000.00 for the initial screening and assessment. Additional fees would be necessary, if extensive collateral review or coordination of services is required.
